Embarking on a whitewater boating adventure this season?

Before you set out to tackle the rapids, make sure you are familiar with the boating registration requirement [ [link removed] ] for noncommercial whitewater crafts!

A whitewater craft is defined as any raft, dory, bateau or similar watercraft that is used to transport passengers along rapidly flowing rivers but does not include canoes or kayaks. If you're not a commercial outfitter and you plan on using a whitewater craft on the Kennebec River between Harris Station and The Forks or West Branch of the Penobscot River between McKay Station and Pockwockamus Falls, state law requires that you file a noncommercial trip registration online prior to launching. *The registration must be completed by each person using the craft for each day spent on the river!*

This online noncommercial trip registration [ [link removed] ] process is easy and free, which replaces the paper registration forms that have been used for years. Completing the required online registration each time you head out on the river helps game warden response efforts should you or a member of your party end up needing assistance during your trip. It also provides important data that allows for fair and equitable river access for all users, both commercial and noncommercial.
