Mothers Day
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The end of the 2024 Legislative Session is in sight! We only have 5 more legislative days remaining before adjournment with most of the major committee bills having already been passed off of the House Floor.
Local District Projects
There are a couple district projects that I'm advocating to have state participation along with local funds, namely the Interstate 35/ Kenwood Trail interchange and the Scott and Dakota Co Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
The* I-35/Kenwood Trail (Cty 50) Interchange* has been a top priority to renovate this busy exit and underpass to more safely handle the increased amount of traffic. This project includes a state grant to "_widen county road 50 under the interstate._ "In the near future, stage two will improve the interchange ramps. The overall project will include federal, state, county, and city participation.
A second project will allow members of our community to safely recycle and dispose of *Household Hazardous Waste* without driving to the Eagan location and without the long wait times. The hazardous waste will be recycled if possible and then properly disposed of. This $7 million project is a joint project between Scott and Dakota Counties. The facility will be conveniently located south of County Road 70 and the McStop.
Things are fluid in the last few days of session, so I will keep you updated on these vital projects in the coming days.
Working to Prevent Domestic Abuse
koz2
Domestic abuse is sad and dangerous. Unfortunately, most victims are women, and we need to support any victims in horrible situations. We’ve all heard of numerous scary and unfortunate situations and I was proud to introduce HF 5391 [ [link removed] ] which would appropriate a programming grant to *Southern Valley Alliance in Scott County* ([link removed]) to assist their efforts in helping domestic violence victims find safety and healing, along with employment training and financial independence.
We are glad to work with this great organization to cut down on instances of domestic abuse and support victims. I appreciate the help of Elko New Market Police Chief Brady Juell, who is also on the Southern Valley Alliance board of directors. I will also be attending an open house soon at their new Scott County location. If you or anyone you know is facing domestic abuse, please reach out to them. They are here to help!
Religious Freedoms
I heard from so many of you concerning the erosion of religious exemptions and protecting long-standing religious liberties. We worked hard on restoring the religious exemptions and am very pleased to report that last Tuesday, we were able to work this out and passed it off the House and Senate floor!
Committee Bills Update
Over the past week, the House passed most of the Democrats' major supplemental spending and policy bills off the floor after lengthy debates and efforts to amend the bills.
Despite these being supplementary spending bills, there are several provisions troubling enough to oppose them, as they propose increased spending amidst a looming deficit and introduce new regulations and bureaucracy that would negatively affect our small businesses, schools, and more. Keep in mind that these bills are intended to be "supplemental" to last session's bills when the majority spent the entire $18 billion surplus.
It was gratifying to see the enhancement of penalties for straw purchases of guns to felony status, a measure I have long supported, pass the House after several hours of debate. We need to enforce existing laws first.
Happy Mother's Day!

I’m lucky to have a number of awesome, loving women in my family who do so much for us and our girls. I hope you can show your moms and grandmas appreciation this Sunday and every day.
