I’m writing to you with a critical update on the state of Tim Kaine’s reelection campaign for U.S. Senate in Virginia. Right now, a crowded pool of Republican primary candidates are vying to defeat Tim, including Hung Cao, a MAGA extremist and election denier, and Scott Parkinson, an anti-LGBTQ conspiracy theorist who aligns himself with “Stop the Steal” rally organizers. Some pundits are saying the race could be close in November, even calling one of Tim’s opponents “a formidable challenger to Kaine.”
But Tim knows Virginia’s true character — and he knows that what Virginians want is a democracy that reflects our highest values, not our worst instincts.
Tim isn’t intimidated by inflammatory MAGA rhetoric. Instead, he’s as committed as ever to getting out to talk with Virginians about the issues that matter most: lowering health care costs, supporting public schools, freedom for women to make their own choices, and so much more.
But there’s a new wrench in this campaign: Donald Trump announced that Virginia is a key target for his campaign—and his internal polls show him within the margin of error.
From here on out, Trump’s campaign will be laser-focused on flipping Virginia red.
So Tim and I and the rest of the campaign team are buckling down to make sure that won’t happen.
And our grassroots supporters are a critical part of that plan.
