John,
FIRST: NPR and KFF Health News reported that over 100 million Americans carry health care debt.
THEN: Senator Bernie Sanders and I introduced the Medical Debt Cancellation Act, a bill that would cancel all existing medical debt, wipe medical debt from all credit reports, and limit the accrual of future medical debt.
NOW: I’m being attacked by Big Pharma, predatory debt purchasers, and hospitals profiting from the financial suffering of millions of patients.
Before I explain, will you rush a $3 contribution to my campaign to let me know you have my back and keep fighting for an end to medical debt? [[link removed]]

Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. In the world’s wealthiest country, there is no reason people should carry medical debt and face financial ruin just for getting sick or injured.
Now critics are lambasting me with the rhetorical question: “But how will you pay for it?
EASY: RIP Medical Debt has proven that we can wipe out debt for pennies on the dollar. In New York City, they canceled [[link removed]] $2 billion of debt for $18 million.
At that rate, it would cost the United States about $1.75 billion to cancel medical debt.
To put that number into context, the top five most profitable healthcare companies had a gross revenue [[link removed]] of $623 billion in 2023. That’s about 0.25% of their gross revenue for a single year. So don’t tell me we can’t afford it.
I won’t let Big Pharma and others profit from medical debt, but I need to know that you have my back. Will you rush a contribution to my campaign today? [[link removed]]
Thank you for your activism and your support.
In solidarity,
Ro
