The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. 16 states plus DC have already joined, accounting for 206 electoral votes of the 270 needed to win.

What's the key? Making the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact a reality. We've got the momentum on our side, as Maine's state House of Representatives just voted to join, sending the bill to the Maine Senate.

When Minnesota joined last year, it gave NPVIC 16 states plus DC, which is 76% of the Electoral College votes needed to essentially make the popular vote the law of the land. Maine would push that farther.
