Trump asks fossil fuel CEOS for staggering $1 billion to beat President Biden in stunning quid pro quo
The MAGA cult leader isn't even trying to hide his nakedly corrupt plans for a dystopian second term at this point. Trump reportedly stunned the CEOs of the country's largest fossil fuel companies during a recent gathering at Mar-a-Lago where he essentially cajoled them to give him $1 BILLION in exchange for dismantling President Biden's green energy agenda and opening the planet to unfettered, climate-busting drilling. VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republican tries to school Jamie Raskin on the House floor and fails miserably
Complimentary tip for Republicans out there taking big boy swings on the House floor: If Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin is even in the same area code as you and you think you're going to get away with perverting the US Constitution for some cheap, partisan win, do think again (or, perhaps, just think in the first place). Walmart and its corporate cronies caught pushing big lie about “shoplifting epidemic” to send more people to prison
Californians for Safety and Justice: Criminal justice reform programs like California’s Prop 47 have been hugely successful in reducing crime and helping communities heal WITHOUT sending people to prison — so of course big corporations like Walmart, Target, Macy’s, and Home Depot are pushing a massive recall effort on the factually incorrect belief that Prop 47 fuels retail theft. Watch this video from our partner Allie, share it far and wide, and make sure the public knows what’s REALLY going on!
GOP plans federal execution spree if Trump wins back the White House
During the final six months of Trump’s calamitous presidency, his administration carried out an unprecedented execution spree, killing 13 people on federal death row and ending a 17-year de facto federal execution moratorium. Shortly after Joe Biden entered the White House, the Justice Department formally reinstated the federal execution moratorium and announced a sweeping policy review. Undeterred, the MAGA cult leader has openly fantasized on the campaign trail about reclaiming the Oval Office and using his executive powers to execute drug dealers, human traffickers, and — why not — officials who leak information to the press. Behind the scenes, there’s a team of radical, right-wing conservatives who are pushing for a second Trump term that involves even more state-sponsored killing than the first. Gotta quench that thirst somehow, right?

More than 100,000 flee Rafah as Netanyahu vows to widen Gaza assault despite US warning
About 110,000 people have fled the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, as heavy fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants on the city’s outskirts has left aid crossings inaccessible and dwindling food and fuel supplies critically low, a UN official said. All crossings into southern Gaza remain effectively closed, cutting off supplies and preventing medical evacuations and the movement of humanitarian staff. Some 1.3 million Palestinians — over half Gaza’s population — have sought refuge in Rafah, following earlier evacuation orders from the IDF. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that a US threat to withhold some weapons would not deter Israel from expanding its offensive into Rafah, despite widespread fears of further humanitarian catastrophe.

Virginia school board votes to restore names of Confederate leaders to schools
By a vote of 5-1, the all-white school board in Shenandoah County, Virginia, approved a proposal that will restore the names of pro-slavery Confederate military leaders to two public schools, reversing a previous board’s decision in 2020 in the wake of George Floyd's murder to change the names of schools that had been linked to Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Turner Ashby. After successfully ousting sensible board members who stood for common sense and progress, the far-right group Coalition for Better Schools petitioned sympathetic school officials to reinstate the names of Jackson, Lee, and Ashby, because everyone apparently deserves a participation trophy, especially seditious generals who took up arms and waged a brutal war against the United States of America in defense of slavery. Incredible stuff.
Trump says Jewish people should be "ashamed" to vote for Biden
For a human wrecking ball who legitimately appears to have never experienced shame for any of the awful, mortifying things he's done throughout his 77 years on Earth, Trump sure is quick to point out when others should feel humiliation or embarrassment for their actions. Funny how that works. [RETWEET THAT!]

Lindsey Graham says he trusts Israel more than America's own military leaders
Another day, another on-brand and deeply embarrassing Lindsey Graham anecdote. This time, the Republican senator from South Carolina — who along with his own party withheld aid to Israel FOR MONTHS before blowing up a bipartisan, compromise package in the Senate at Donald Trump's request — took to the airwaves and voiced his steadfast allegiance to...a foreign government. "I trust Israel more than I trust [Defense Secretary Lloyd] Austin," Graham said, in remarks aimed at President Biden's decision to withhold a US arms shipment to the IDF for fear of the bloodbath that awaits should Israel proceed with a full-scale invasion of Rafah. "Mr. President if you do not change this policy, you will have destroyed the last best chance to deliver lasting stability in the Mideast for generations," Graham said. Interesting hot take. Not entirely sure how leveling all of Gaza, displacing several million Palestinians, and killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians delivers "lasting stability," but you do you, Lindsey.
Two political operatives struck plea deals in Rep. Henry Cuellar's bribery case
Mina Colin Strother, Rep. Cuellar's former campaign manager and chief of staff, and Florencio "Lencho" Rendon, a Texas businessman described as a "close associate" of the embattled Democratic congressman, have agreed to plead guilty and cooperate with the Justice Department’s bribery case against Cuellar, according to court documents unsealed this week. The Justice Department last week released an indictment accusing Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, of accepting $598,000 in bribes from foreign entities, including a Mexican bank and an oil and gas company controlled by Azerbaijan. Strother and Rendon were both charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection with the scheme. In a statement last week before the charges were unsealed, Cuellar denied any wrongdoing and said he had "proactively sought legal advice" from the House Ethics Committee.
