Mozambique Initiative [link removed] Missouri and Mozambique Celebrate Connection

Last week marked the second and final week of the United Methodist General Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both the Mozambique and Missouri delegations gathered for a family dinner one evening to celebrate more than 30 years of friendship and partnership in ministry. [link removed] Read the story

Bishop Bob Farr presented a gift for Bishop Joaquina Nhanala, the bishop of the Mozambique Area, to Rev. João Sambo, assistant to Bishop Nhanala, during the dinner. Bishop Nhanala didn't travel to Charlotte due to her husband's health.
The quilt was designed by a group of women from Pleasant Grove UMC in Hatton, Missouri. The pattern is, appropriately named, the [link removed] friendship star, and the quilt is made using fabric from both Missouri and Mozambique, the latter being made from Mozambican [link removed] capulanas, a type of a sarong worn primarily in [link removed] Mozambique but also in other areas of southeastern Africa. Missourians who have visited Mozambique are always gifted with capulanas.
The ladies are making a second quilt for the [link removed] Festival of Sharing Quilt Auction, to be held in November 2024, with proceeds going to Church World Service.

Stole Call
Please consider bringing new or gently used clergy stoles to Annual Conference for sharing with our ministry partners in Mozambique. Our Mozambican colleagues have also mentioned that access to clergy collars and clergy tabs can be challenging to find in certain parts of the country and would appreciate any donated collars as well. Possible options for purchasing clergy collars: [link removed] clerical collar or [link removed] tab collar inserts. Bring your donations to the Missouri Conference table at registration or to the business office, and we will make sure it arrives in Mozambique. Thank you!

Mobile Health Offering at Annual Conference

On Saturday, June 8, during the Service of Recognition at the Missouri Annual Conference Session, we'll be taking an offering for the Mozambique Initiative's mobile health clinic program.
The Mozambique Initiative supports health, clinics and wellness programs organized by the United Methodist Church in Mozambique. Your gift at the 2024 Annual Conference will strengthen the UMC’s network of health responses, including the revitalization of facilities, building better water sources, promoting nutrition and continued work on eradicating preventable diseases, such as malaria, HIV/AIDS and COVID-19, while supporting the most vulnerable populations, including mothers, newborns and children, especially those in rural Mozambique.
