Friend,
I’m writing to share an update on the case of Captain Brett
Crozier. If you haven’t been following the events surrounding his
dismissal from the USS Theodore Roosevelt, let me bring you up to
speed.
Last week, Capt. Crozier was indefensibly let go from his
command after warning senior Navy officials that crew members aboard
his 4,800-person ship were falling dangerously ill from the
coronavirus. Capt. Crozier, who tested positive for COVID-19 himself,
acted honorably -- but in the following days, former Acting Navy
Secretary Thomas Modly delivered a speech to the USS Theodore
Roosevelt’s crew, in which he insulted Capt. Crozier by calling him
too “stupid” and “naive” to lead.
If you saw my last email, then you know that I joined a
number of veterans in calling for Modly’s resignation. And for those
who had the chance to sign my petition, thank you for adding your
voice to mine. We were successful: Following public
outcry over his disgraceful comments, Modly has officially resigned
his post as Acting Navy
Secretary.
But our
work’s not done yet. Will you sign this
petition today calling on the Navy to reinstate Capt. Crozier so that
he can retake command of the USS Theodore
Roosevelt?
Best, Ted
