Dear John,

I'm reaching out to you today as the President and Founder of Pacific Justice Institute, not only to share an urgent matter but to invite you to stand with us in a pivotal battle for religious freedom and free expression.

For over five decades, a magnificent cross on Albany Hill, constructed and maintained by the Albany Lions Club, has stood as a beacon of hope and community. Lit during Christmas and Easter, it has hosted countless gatherings, from sunrise services to weddings and memorial ceremonies, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual solace in our community.

Sadly, this cherished symbol is now under threat. In 2016, opposition arose, leading to a series of actions by the local City Council aimed at removing the cross. Their efforts escalated to legal confrontations, including a recent court decision that undermines the rights to free exercise of religion and free speech by questioning the Lions Club’s religious expression.

At Pacific Justice Institute, we firmly believe in defending these constitutional rights against such unwarranted governmental hostility. The court’s decision not only challenges the Lions Club's intentions but also sets a concerning precedent for religious and expressive freedoms across our nation.
