Dear John,
These are challenging times for all of us, with the fast-moving impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We were at work on our latest issue of Ms. magazine when the world changed suddenly. As we go to print, we’re still reeling from the tragedy – the increasing numbers of people sickened by the disease, the increasing numbers of deaths, the increasing anxiety and feelings of helplessness.
These are difficult times for all of us. And yet, we continue.
Here at Ms., we’re providing up-to-the minute reporting on the COVID-19 crisis—both in the magazine and online at MsMagazine.com. Our team is focused on aspects of the crisis not often reported by mainstream media: mainly, how this virus disproportionately impacts women, many of whom are on the front lines of this public health crisis. The vast majority of nurses, home health care workers and those who look after the elderly in nursing homes are women. So are the overwhelming majority of teachers, school counselors and school cafeteria workers, domestic workers and childcare providers.
When we shelter in place, what happens to women experiencing domestic violence, homelessness and hunger? And what happens to women who can’t afford not to work, when family members become ill or children’s schools close?
Ms. will not be on newsstands this spring, due to COVID-19.
