Unaffordable child care can be a major burden often leading families to choose between having a job or providing care, can reduce family income, and can limit future opportunities. The economic impact of child care is also disproportionate, hitting hardest on families with lower incomes.
Despite the critical need for child care, public funding sources fall woefully short.
Without strong federal action, the childcare crisis will worsen, affecting more than just children and families' immediate well-being. We need to advocate for laws that make childcare affordable for all, increase support for providers to improve care quality and availability, and expand family leave policies to help parents balance work and family life effectively.
