Chapter Meeting this Saturday May 11th!

The time for this event has been changed, the chapter meeting will run 12:30pm-3:30pm.

TONIGHT: Imperialism Night School

Join the first in a four-part night school on Imperialism to better understand the enduring systems of domination that allow the genocide of Palestine to continue unabated, and the history of struggles for self-determination around the world. The first session on Zoom this Thursday starts with the classic question asked by Lenin, "Is imperialism the highest stage of capitalism?" On zoom tonight at 7pm.

Rent Control Canvasses for a Stronger RSO

Housing costs have been outpacing general inflation for the greater part of the past thirty years. This has directly led to the displacement of people from their homes and onto the streets or out of the City – each $100 in median rents corresponds to a 9% increase in homelessness. LA City Council is considering amending the RSO, its law governing rent stabilization, for the first time since 1985.

Join DSA-LA to canvass residents of Council District 3 to build a base to demand stronger protections for renters and better rent control.

Central Branch DSA 101

Are you new or newly returning to DSA? To Los Angeles? To the Left? Then join us for DSA 101!

At this orientation, we’ll talk about what capitalism is, how it functions, and why socialism is ideologically opposed to it. Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we’re working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers to ground ourselves in socialist theory and discuss together how we can put it into action. We’re excited to chat with you!

All are welcome! We’ll meet in the UTLA Building in Koreatown (3303 Wilshire Blvd), Room TBD. This location is accessible by public transit, though you can also park in the building and we will validate your ticket.

Postcards for Palestine

Join your comrades at Desano’s Pizzeria as we write postcards to DSA members in key districts urging them to contact their City Council member and call for a ceasefire in Palestine. We’ll have pizza and solidarity. The venue is friendly for all-ages, a short walk from the Vermont/Santa Monica Metro station, and close to other public transportation options.

Power Mass Transit 2024 Campaign Kick-Off!

Following DSA-LA’s Power Mass Transit campaign’s renewal at convention, we are excited to revamp our efforts for 2024 ! We will discuss our campaign’s primary two prongs — Fare Free Transit & Public Services, along with our focus on coalition building with (transit) labor unions and socialists in office (SIO). Following our hour-long meeting, there will also be an after meeting drinks nearby. Final location TBD but likely in Koreatown near the Wilshire / Vermont B (Red) Line & D (Purple) Line Station.

Queer Socialists Working Group General Meeting
