When I put pen to paper a few months ago to craft the introduction to our 2019 annual report, I wrote, "In a world of uncertainty, there is one thing we know: Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children right here in our own community."
Those words hit an even deeper emotional chord as I write to you today. Far too many families are being pushed further into poverty by today's health crisis. We find ourselves helping parents access food and medicine for their children before they can tackle the complexity of remote learning without access to a computer. We are texting and FaceTime-ing with teenagers in foster care three to four times a week to make sure they are following the stay home order and checking in on what other support they need during this critical time. Most importantly, we are making sure they know we care about their safety.
The children you read about in these pages entered this dangerous time healthier, more confident and with loving family support because Children's Law Center is constantly thinking bigger and working smarter -- a strength we are bringing to the crisis today.
