Healthcare costs in America are out of control, forcing people to make an impossible choice between forgoing treatment or racking up medical debt. The consequences are devastating.
40% of Americans report carrying medical debt.1 It's the leading cause of bankruptcy for middle—and working class Americans, even those with health insurance.
25% of Americans say they have skipped healthcare due to costs.2 An estimated 68,000 people die a year because they lack access to healthcare.3
There is no reason people should carry medical debt in the world’s wealthiest country. It’s time for Congress to wipe the slate clean and pass the Medical Debt Cancelation Act, legislation Ro Khanna and Bernie Sanders introduced that would end the burden of punishing medical bills once and for all.
The Medical Debt Cancelation Act will:
✅Cancel all existing medical debt.
✅Wipe medical debt from all credit reports.
✅Limit the accrual of future medical debt.
Sign the petition: Demand that Congress deliver freedom from medical debt for millions of Americans.
Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Nobody should have to go into debt and face financial ruin just for getting sick or injured.
