On this day in 1960, the FDA approved the very first birth control pill, marking a watershed moment for reproductive rights in America.
Now, it’s a common misconception that the far-right crusade against reproductive rights starts and ends with abortion.
It’s only the beginning. Some far-right groups claim that all forms of hormonal birth control, including IUDs and the Pill, cause abortions (an out-and-out LIE).
Anti-choice extremists nationwide are targeting:
- Birth control
- Emergency contraceptives
- Sexual education
- In-vitro fertilization (IVF)
And more.
If you’re as outraged as I am, I hope you’ll pitch in and make sure I can continue fighting for reproductive rights in Congress.
Folks, these things are about more than just reproductive rights. The first birth control pills allowed generations of women to take unprecedented control of their own lives. This is about equality. About bodily autonomy. About freedom.
The situation will only get worse until we elect a strong pro-choice majority to ensure the protections of Roe v. Wade are once again guaranteed by federal law.
I won’t rest until that happens. But that day will come sooner if we’re all working together.
Republicans want to flip my seat so they can install an anti-choice extremist in my place. If you can, chip in any amount to support my re-election campaign so I can stand up for choice in Washington.
Thank you,
