Hi John - Like many of us, I lie awake at night fearful of the impact the coronavirus is having on my community, the world and those I love. As a mom, my saving grace is that thankfully the virus seems to have minimal impact on most kids. I can’t imagine how much more scared I’d be if I thought my daughters could become really sick. The pandemic is, however, affecting kids in other major ways. Here at home, kids are losing early learning opportunities. Unaccompanied children at our southern border are being denied safety in our country. Children in poor countries are losing access to basic health and nutrition services needed to survive. And refugees in overcrowded camps are losing their parents to this virus. Sadly, vulnerable kids will not come out of this crisis unscathed. And that’s why we need your help. Because too often lawmakers are focused on big industries with fancy lobbyists. We are the voice for kids and we need your support now. Please make a donation in any amount to help us advocate for the needs of these children. Your donation will be doubled thanks to a generous donor! We’ve identified 3 major ways we can help limit the impact of coronavirus on vulnerable children here in the U.S. and around the world: - Ensure that Congress provides emergency funding to child care programs to stay open for first responders and re-open after the pandemic ends so kids can be better prepared for school and their parents can get back to work.
- Stop the Trump administration from immediately deporting unaccompanied kids at the U.S. southern border, and instead give them health screenings and send them to safe locations while they await their asylum hearings.
- Increase the amount of foreign assistance to respond to the outbreak in the most vulnerable communities across the world, like refugee camps or urban slums, where it is impossible to practice social distancing or consistently wash your hands with soap and clean water to prevent the virus from spreading. Children losing their parents puts them at even greater risk of harm, including from exploitation and violence.
You can help make a difference for these kids with a first-time donation to Save the Children Action Network. Even $10 or $20 will make a difference in our work as the voice for kids. And right now, a generous donor is doubling all gifts up to $20,000! For me, this is an inspiring agenda that will make a big difference in the lives of kids during in this time of uncertainty. If you feel the same, please help today by making a donation. I know many people are concerned about their finances right now, but even $10 or $20 can make a big difference, especially because we can double it! Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
