It doesn’t matter if this is a drill, they take this seriously.
Lock the doors.
Turn off the lights.
Close the blinds and get away from the windows.
Listen for sounds in the hall.
Wait...
The alarm rings again.
All clear. This time was just practice.
Our children know what to do – in schools, they’re taught, they practice, they prepare.
John, we have created the lockdown generation, taught our children to be prepared for the inevitable: Not if a gunman will shoot up their school, but when .
Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children and teens in the United States – this shouldn’t be a fact we accept or overlook. We should be fighting like hell to stop our kids being killed by gun violence, not preparing them for a terrifying end.
It shouldn’t be on our kids to know what to do in the event of a shooting, it should be on our lawmakers to pass common sense gun safety legislation that will prevent a shooting from happening.
