Hi Friend –
We’re very excited to announce that Maryland Governor Wes Moore just signed the Maryland Kids Code into law.
The legislation received overwhelming community support and unanimous votes in both chambers of the Maryland legislature, representing a historic bipartisan breakthrough in the fight to protect young people online.
This big win demonstrated the growing power of the youth online safety movement, despite unrelenting tech industry pushback. It also represents a new — hopefully first of many to come — high-water mark in the growing national advocacy movement to protect young people in today’s chaotic digital world.
Along with California’s Age Appropriate Design Code, we’ve now advanced online kids’ safety legislation into law in two states – but we’re not done yet. We’re working with coalition partners in several other states to enact Kids Code bills, and we need your help to keep the momentum rolling forward.
Can you chip in a donation today to help us pass these bills in various states, keep kids safe online, and hold Big Tech accountable?
Yes, I'll donate.
The Kids Code bills are designed to create a safer online environment for kids across the digital world, from social media to connected tech to AI. The legislation requires privacy by default in tech products and platforms and requires online products and services reasonably likely to be accessed by kids under 18 to be age-appropriate and designed in kids’ best interests.
This is a very significant victory, but the work doesn’t stop here. Our success in these two states proves that we can take on Big Tech – and win. But we’re going to need all the help we can get because we’re up against some of the biggest and most powerful companies, with near-limitless resources to lobby against kids’ best interests.
So if you can, chip in a generous donation today to help us keep passing Kids Code bills in more states around the country.
Thank you for everything you do to help us keep kids safe online and hold Big Tech accountable,
Nicole Gill
