To a Yooper and a northern Michigander, this challenge smells like election interference, and I had to ask our election lawyers, “Why did she do this? Surely, she knew better.”
Dirty politics is likely the answer. My Democratic primary opponent appears to be desperately trying to sow voter doubt and throw me off my game. She wants to delay our fundraising efforts, as my team needed to spend valuable time and resources responding to her erroneous legal challenge.
We know the challenge will be dismissed, and I am no stranger to political adversity, but this one is beyond that. Am I disappointed in her conduct? Certainly.
Democrats are a party that celebrates democracy, not attacks it. I want to earn your vote, not manipulate it.
We will continue to campaign with integrity, honesty, and courage to represent all of us in Congress.
So, let's get back to talking about family sustaining wages, better jobs, healthcare, childcare, Social Security, immigration reform, public education, and energy independence while protecting our environment and addressing climate change at the same time.
When we improve these issues, the lives of hardworking everyday Americans improve, and these are the topics my campaign thrives on.
