Call on the Brown University Corporation to Refuse to Vote on Divestment

On April 24, 2024, the Brown Divest Coalition, a group of pro-Hamas students at Brown University, launched an encampment on the main green on Brown's campus, spending a week calling for divestment and chanting antisemitic, genocidal slogans including "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" and calling for a "worldwide intifada."

The encampment violated several university policies, including "disruption of community," "disruption of University activities," "failure to comply," "unauthorized entry or use of space" and "violation of operational rules," but instead of holding the student mob accountable, the Brown administration caved to demands after six days.

The concessions granted to the pro-Hamas rioters in exchange for them ending their encampment include a promise that the Brown Corporation will hold a vote on divestment at its October 2024 meeting.

These pro-terror students shouldn't be rewarded for violating university policies and creating a hostile environment on campus for Jewish students. If the Corporation follows through with the Brown administration's promise that it will vote on the antisemitic divestment proposal, it will only encourage and incentivize further riots and policy violations both on Brown's campus and on campuses across the country facing similar radical encampments right now.

Jewish students are already feeling alone, afraid, and ostracized at Brown and at schools across the country. The Brown Corporation should announce its refusal to hold a vote on the antisemitic divestment proposal and make it clear that it will stand up for Brown's Jewish students even when the administration won't.

Call on the Brown Corporation to refuse to vote on divestment. Doing so will only reward a pro-terror student mob for violating campus policies while further fanning the flames of antisemitism on campus by granting legitimacy to the antisemitic BDS movement.
