THE WEEK's BIG 3

President Biden on Tuesday condemned a “ferocious surge of antisemitism” in the United States following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack against Israel and said people were already forgetting the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. ADL and other Jewish groups are growing concerned university leaders are conceding too much to anti-Israel protestors as they continue to wreak havoc on campuses across the country. School officials from California, New York and Maryland testified before a House Education and the Workforce subcommittee on Wednesday to address a streak of hateful rhetoric in K-12 schools that’s intensified during the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Read on for more on these headlines, news you can use to fight hate and the latest info about ADL from around the country.

For American Jews, Biden’s Speech on Antisemitism Offers Recognition and Healing

“President Biden, standing in front of six candles symbolizing the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust, delivered on Tuesday the strongest condemnation of antisemitism by any sitting American president. For Jews monitoring a spike in hate crimes and instances of antisemitic rhetoric amid pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses, Mr. Biden’s speech at a Holocaust remembrance ceremony at the Capitol was both fiercely necessary and fiercely appreciated.” The New York Times:  FULL STORY

Jewish leaders worry that university presidents are appeasing anti-Israel protesters — at any cost

“As universities around the country strike various deals with anti-Israel protesters to quell the turmoil on college campuses — including giving protesters a seat at the table regarding investment decisions — Jewish leaders fear that even these largely symbolic concessions could further poison the atmosphere for Jewish students.”  Jewish Insider : FULL STORY

+ADL Tweet:  A new poll by @Generation_Lab shows that only a small percentage of college students have actually participated in campus protests related to the Israel-Hamas war — and the majority of those polled oppose the tactics being used by anti-Israel protestors.
