Jack, sign and send the petition to President Biden: Over-the-counter birth control must be covered by insurance–no prescription required.

In the U.S., we can finally buy birth control pills online or right off the shelf—no prescription or I.D. needed! We now have this contraception option available directly without having to visit a physician or showing one’s personal identification to a pharmacist.
Yet, we still face a major barrier.
Most health insurance plans (including public plans like Medicaid) can require a prescription first before they cover the cost of birth control pills. Everyone, including those without any insurance, deserves access to contraception.
The Biden Administration can make clear that over-the-counter birth control, now including Opill, purchased without a prescription, must be covered.
Send a letter directly to President Biden: Over-the-counter birth control must be covered by insurance–no prescription required.

P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier calling on President Biden to make clear that over-the-counter birth control like Opill, purchased without a prescription, must be fully covered by all insurance plans.:

The United States has finally joined 100+ other countries in making Opill–a daily, progestin-only, birth control pill–available over the counter, no prescription needed. Now, we must ensure it is affordable and accessible to everyone!
Thanks to guidance issued by the Affordable Care Act, most private health insurance plans must cover all FDA-approved methods of contraception. However, insurance plans can require a prescription, which creates a major barrier to insurance coverage of Opill.

Having contraception available should not mean people have to pay out of pocket for it, especially since so many have gotten used to having free contraception thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Research shows that both adults and young people would be more likely to use an over-the-counter birth control pill if it was covered by insurance.
The Biden Administration can expand access now by making clear that over-the-counter birth control, including Opill, purchased without a prescription must also be covered by insurance policies.
Sign and send the petition to President Biden and his administration asking them to require insurance coverage of over-the-counter contraceptives without a prescription.
