John -
We officially launched a BIG campaign in the U.S. targeting one of the
most under-the-radar culprits of the climate crisis: utility companies.
These companies have made us reliant on fossil fuels to heat and cool our
homes, and they hike up our energy bills to line their pockets — all while
using our money to burn down the planet. But we can fight back.
Each of us has a utility regulated by local and state energy rules, which
means we can all play a big role in changing the way our homes are
powered.
That’s why on Tuesday, we kicked off our weekly Utilities Public Education
Series with a session on legislative campaigning and ballot initiatives.
Here’s a brief recap:
Climate activists from across the country heard from Lucy Hochschartner,
deputy campaign manager for Pine Tree Power, John Farrell, co-director of
the Institute of Local Self-Reliance, and Patrick Robbins, coordinator of
the New York Energy Democracy Alliance.
These experts taught us how we can organize at the grassroots level, lobby
our legislators, and build political power to hold utility companies
accountable — and even create utilities owned and run by the community.
From Montana to Missouri to Maine, we had attendees ready to start or
build on local utility campaigns, and they all had the opportunity to go
in-depth with the speaker of their choice in a breakout room and
strategize based on the tactic that works best for them.
John, it’s us vs.
utilities, and we couldn’t be more energized to be in this critical fight
with you. [ [link removed] ]If you’re ready to plug in and take the next step with us,
