United States Senator Mike Crapo - Idaho

*Fighting Antisemitism on
College Campuses*

Our nation's institutions of higher learning have
become hotbeds of antisemitism, especially in the wake of the brutal
attacks against Israel and innocent civilians by Hamas and Iran.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, violent language and threats
against the Jewish community and Israel increased 488 percent in the
first 18 hours after Hamas' terror attacks on October 7, 2023.

Here
are the ways my Senate Republican colleagues and I are fighting back
against antisemitism:

-
Co-sponsored a resolution condemning the
rise of antisemitism on college campuses [link 1], which calls out
university administrators and urges the U.S. Department of Education
to take necessary steps to ensure that institutions of higher
education are complying with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of
1964.

-
Co-sponsored a resolution condemning antisemitism on college
campuses and applauding police departments.

-
Introduced the No
Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act [link 2], forbidding loan
forgiveness for people convicted of a federal or state offense related
to a campus protest.

-
Introduced the Antisemitism Awareness Act
[link 3], which directs the U.S. Department of Education to use the
International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) definition of
antisemitism when investigating antisemitic acts on campus.

-
Co-sponsored the Countering Antisemitism Act, establishing a National
Coordinator to Counter Antisemitism.

-
Sent a letter to [link 4]
Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Education Miguel
Cardona urging them to restore order to campuses that have been
effectively shut down by antisemitic mobs that are targeting Jewish
students.

-
Demanded that the U.S. Secretary of Education provide
information regarding the U.S. Department of Education's efforts--or
lack thereof--to ensure the safety of Jewish and pro-Israel students.

*What Else I Have Been Up To Lately*

Work on behalf of
Idahoans continues in the second half of the 118th Congress. A few of
my efforts over the last month include:

-
Sent a letter to
President Biden [link 6] calling for his Administration to withdraw
its support for two international agreements being considered at this
month's World Health Assembly that would grant greater authority to
the dysfunctional World Health Organization (WHO);

-
Voted to
prioritize national security [link 7] by reauthorizing the Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA);

-
Called for the House to
hold a vote on important downwinders legislation [link 8], which would
provide long-overdue compensation for communities and individuals who
have suffered from the consequences of the United States' nuclear
testing program;

-
Attained [link 9] a vote [link 10] on my
bipartisan legislation to defund the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) rule designed to phase out gas-powered cars and trucks in
favor of electric vehicles;

-
Introduced the VA Abortion
Transparency Act [link 11] which would impose new abortion reporting
requirements on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create more
transparency for taxpayers;

-
Advocated for Americans' Second
Amendment rights [link 12] by announcing plans to file a Congressional
Review Act (CRA) Resolution of Disapproval to block a rule severely
restricting the ability of American firearm, ammunition, and
related-component manufacturers to obtain a license to export their
products for sale
