Friends,

I sincerely hope that you and your families are safe and healthy. You are in our thoughts.

I want to start off by thanking you for the incredible support we have received for our Community Care Outreach program. Your amazing generosity has helped us distribute supplies to hundreds of families in the hardest hit parts of our community.

The past few weeks have been an absolute nightmare for those of us living in NYC. Many of our staff members are ill or have family who are ill, and our community continues to suffer.

While the death toll keeps rising in my district (Southeast Queens and Nassau County), the response effort by our federal Representatives has been a slap in the face.

In my district alone, New York’s 5th Congressional district, unemployment is skyrocketing and families are struggling to survive. My family and I included. My father, who was previously a rideshare driver, was forced to go on unemployment, but like so many, we are yet to receive any check. The same goes for my Mother and brother, who were also forced out of their jobs and on to unemployment.

And again, no checks have come.

This is the reality for so many families in Southeast Queens right now. The extreme emotional and physical difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic have only been compounded by a lack of real substantive support by our government. Folks in my community are being forced to make life threatening decisions just to ensure their families have the resources they need to survive.

This is unacceptable.

The representatives we elected to protect us, have utterly failed. Our government has failed us. While our constituents are struggling to survive my Congressman, and opponent, Gregory Meeks is hosting digital town halls and offering hollow legislative plans. We don’t need another corporate bailout or more digital town halls, we need action.

We need leadership.

While Meeks continuously ignores the reality in NY-5, our campaign has distributed supplies to over 300 families in need throughout Southeast Queens, and will continue to do so as long as this crisis goes on. I, better than anybody in Congress, understand how poverty disproportionately exposes working class folks to the harshest consequences of inaction. I live in public housing and know the struggles that we face. It is the reason I am running for Congress, and the reason our campaign is entirely focused on Community Care Outreach

As the federal government debates and offers empty solutions, I will continue to provide my community with the supplies and resources they so desperately need.
