** "Let me book train tickets further in advance"!
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Supporter

Are you looking forward to the summer? If you're planning any holidays or daytrips by train, you might have come up against the same problem as Jeremy:
"Every year I book a holiday cottage early in the year but can't book a train until much nearer the time. It's ridiculous. It puts people off travelling by train."
- Jeremy from Norwich

Many advance train tickets can't be booked until 12 weeks before travel, and Jeremy's not alone in finding it frustrating. A few weeks ago we asked people to tell us how the 12-week booking window is holding up their summer plans, and almost 150 people responded. People like Jane, who told us:
"I can't make my plans or budget for my holiday, which makes it very difficult for me as I'm a pensioner and I need to save."
- Jane from Brighton

If you were one of the people who shared your experiences, thank you. Now, can you help us raise awareness of this issue and make change happen, by sharing our campaign on social media?

We know change is possible. Some train companies already allow advance tickets to be booked more than 12 weeks ahead, which is great. But the fact that not all do is confusing and harmful. So, we're calling on train companies and Network Rail to expand the train ticket booking window.
Our beach at Kings Cross Station

Us at the ticket machine

To raise awareness of the impact this issue is having, we set up our own summer beach at London's Kings Cross Station, complete with deckchairs, buckets and spades. The rail media paid attention, as you'll see from this article ([link removed]) . But can you help us make our campaign more visible by sharing it on social media?

Please share this Facebook post ([link removed]) , this post on X ([link removed]) , this post on Instagram ([link removed]) , and/or this post on LinkedIn ([link removed]) . You might want to include your own comments about how the booking window affects you.

Best wishes and thanks! We'll keep you posted about the progress of this campaign

P.S. Our preparations are underway for #BetterTransportWeek 2024 - just over a month to go! If you're still wondering how you can get involved and help to spread the sustainable transport message, we've come up with a few ideas.
* Does your workplace have a travel policy? If not, how about aiming to create one in time for Better Transport Week? See our toolkit ([link removed]) for a step-by-step guide.
* Have you always wondered about travelling to work, school, shopping or other activities a different way but never tried? Why not use Better Transport Week to have a go and let us know how you get on? You never know, it could be the start of a whole new journey!

Don't forget to let us know what you're up to ([link removed]) , we may even feature your efforts on our website to inspire other supporters.
