To fight coronavirus, Donald Trump sidelined scientists and doctors, and turned to his son-in-law Jared Kushner for advice.
As the pandemic began, the New York Times reported that Kushner and Trump agreed that “governors are driving their residents into a panic by airing worst-case projections of medical needs.”
Donald Trump has undermined scientists like me throughout his administration, whether it’s ignoring epidemiologists, denying climate change, or slashing scientific research and pandemic preparation by billions.
I keep thinking about the parallels with climate change.
Scientists, whether epidemiologists or climate scientists, have built some really good models that can help predict disaster before it strikes. But when you can see the crisis unfolding around you, it's already too late to prevent the worst. You have to listen to them early on.
Donald Trump wasted weeks denying the threat of coronavirus. He has spent years denying the threat of climate change.
We must defeat Trump in November and put believers of science back in charge.
Thanks for fighting for science.
