Susan Collins’ claim that Donald Trump “did a lot that was right in the beginning” of the coronavirus crisis is aging about as well as when she said he “learned his lesson” from impeachment. What exactly was “right” about Trump ignoring early warnings of the coming public health crisis and waiting months before taking action?

A new report has revealed that U.S. intelligence officials were sounding the alarm about coronavirus as far back as November. This comes after independent reporting has shown Trump ignored warnings from his own top advisors and “wasted months” when he could have taken lifesaving early action.

Susan Collins’ defense of Trump’s botched coronavirus response is reprehensible -- and it’s a consistent pattern of behavior. Just think back: when she was voting to acquit Trump of all impeachment charges, Collins claimed that he had “learned his lesson.” Really? Not sure his recent dismissals of officials involved with the Ukraine investigation back that up.
