Meet Ireland’s Next Climate Youth Delegate for 2024
We are delighted to announce that Beth Doherty has been selected to be part of Ireland’s national and international climate change efforts for a term of 20 months. Established by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, working in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), this will be the second year of the Climate Youth Delegate Programme.

Empowering unemployed youth through Skills Summary
In the complex landscape where young people are transitioning into employment, education, or training, tools like Skills Summary provide an essential scaffold. Skills Summary is a free online platform that captures, measures and communicates the invaluable transversal skills (transferrable life skills or soft skills) young people gain through non-formal education pathways such as volunteering and youth work.

COP28: Reflection by Jennifer Salmon
In December, Ireland’s previous Climate Youth Delegate 2023-2024, Jennifer Salmon, travelled to Dubai to attend COP28, the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Closing out her term, Jennifer has reflected on her experience and on the outcomes of COP in a wrap-up blog post.

DCEDIY: Youth Work in Action Deadline Approaching
The Department is seeking submissions from DCEDIY-funded youth organisations, services and clubs for short stories of Youth Work in Action to be included in their new national strategy for youth work and related opportunities. If you would like a story involving your organisation or affiliated club to be considered for inclusion, you are invited to share your story at the below link by 5pm Friday 10th May.

The ‘State of our young nation: A report into the lives of Irish 18-29-year-olds’ Launched
On 16th April, we launched a new report in association with IPSOS B&A. The research offers an in-depth look at the challenges facing 18 to 29-year-olds, including accommodation difficulties, financial strain, and low mental well-being.

The STATUS (Supporting Travellers Advance Through Universal Services) Toolkit is a Quality Assurance (QA) Framework whereby organisations can engage in a process of self-evaluation and agree a Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) to support their practices in order to be more inclusive of members of the Traveller community.

The No Name Club National Youth Awards took place in late April, in Newpark Hotel Kilkenny. The highlight of the No Name Club year, the Awards celebrate the club members that have made an outstanding contribution to No Name Club and their local community. Congratulations to our two worthy winners Avan Connaughton from Kilbride No Name Club and Georgina Casey from Kilkenny No Name Club.

Belong To is thrilled to be Grand Marshall of Dublin Pride this year as they celebrate 50 years of Pride. Would your youth service like to join them on Saturday, June 29th and march alongside hundreds of LGBTQ+ youth? KCETB: Launch of effective strategies for engaging and supporting young people
Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board Youth Office partnered with South East Technological University (SETU) to launch an insightful and innovative research report entitled “I feel like I am heard” in March. The report explores the experiences of young people and good youth work practices for working with young people who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET).

IYF: Funding Opportunity
Coca-Cola are partnering with the Irish Youth Foundation again this year to manage the 2024 Coca-Cola Thank You Fund. A fund of €200,000 / £171,000 is available to community-based projects and programmes across Ireland and Northern Ireland that are focused on empowering young people aged 16-25 year olds.

Urdd: Welsh Youth Peace Message
Every year since 1922, the young people of Wales have shared a message of peace to their peers around the world. This year’s Peace and Goodwill Message will celebrate the centenary of the Welsh Women’s Peace Petition 1923-24, highlighting the need to advocate for peace a hundred years on.
