This week more than 110,000 people were told to evacuate Rafah, including Project HOPE staff at two of our clinics serving Gazans. Because our team members live in or near the evacuation zone, we've had to suspend some of our vital work in Rafah. Other partners we were deploying to help were denied entry to Gaza due to the closing of the border crossing, further restricting the flow of urgently-needed aid.
The new evacuation orders and escalating violence are already having deadly consequences for Palestinians in Rafah, which was declared a safe zone after months of bombing have left most of Gaza uninhabitable. The medical care and supplies Project HOPE has been delivering in displacement camps are the only health care many people have -- with our teams providing an average of over 1,000 consultations per week in Rafah. Lauren, in this dire moment, please rush a gift today to help send lifesaving supplies and aid to families in Gaza, Haiti and communities worldwide.
As more people flee and violence continues, humanitarian services like these will be forced to suspend indefinitely cutting thousands off from lifesaving food, medicine, and other aid. Moving forward, Project HOPE teams will assess their ability to provide care on a day-to-day basis. So far, we've delivered nine tons of medical relief, including essential medicines, medical devices and supplies into Gaza, while we are also urgently advocating for a sustained ceasefire and the release of all hostages.
