John,
Food & Water Justice works tirelessly to protect your food and water and ensure bold climate progress. This week, we’re sharing a behind-the-scenes look into how we protect your health and environment through the legal system and why we’re passionate about this work.

My name is Tyler Lobdell, and I’m a staff attorney at Food & Water Watch. I’m connected to my work here because I share the same perspective of what needs to be accomplished for a “livable future,” which is a Food & Water Watch phrase that really resonates with me.
Most of my days are spent on calls with allies to discuss current developments or build a strategy to reach a common goal. Right now, we are pressuring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update factory farm regulations under the Clean Water Act.
Last year, we met in person with EPA officials and EPA lawyers in Eastern Oregon to discuss drinking water contamination caused by industrial agriculture.
We had these EPA folks in a conference room, as well as about 35 community members and local community-based organizations. That was a unique day where I was face-to-face with agency decision-makers, forcing them to grapple with the human impacts of their inaction.
Food & Water Watch’s approach to the anti-corporate way of talking about our work aligns with how I see things. This is often not the case for somebody like me, who has really strong opinions and beliefs. Working at a place that believes in that is unique and rewarding.
Thank you for the opportunity to do this very important work every day. Thank you for your critical role in this fight for our planet!
