John,
I'm writing to you personally. Will you join me virtually, via zoom, on Tuesday, May 14th at 6pm to get involved with this historic mobilization.
On Monday, April 29th, at the National Press Club, The Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, along with our partners announced our plans to mobilize poor and low-wage people, clergy, and our advocates and partners to Washington, DC for the Mass Poor People's and Low-Wage Workers' Assembly and March on Washington and to the Polls on June 29th, 2024. This electoral season we are joining forces with the AFL-CIO, the Christian Church (DOC), Common Cause, The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries, Good Trouble, The Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, Repairers of the Breach, Make it Plain, The National Council of Churches, National Council of jewish Women, SEIU, The Union of Southern Service Workers and more partners to come to mobilize 15 million infrequent voters to the polls on election day!
We are coming together to say we must restore the moral conscience of this nation, and elect leaders across the country who will make different choices - not to raise poverty, but to lower it; not to give out tax breaks to wealthy corporations, but to those who are struggling to make ends meet! It does not stand to reason - morally, economically, or politically - that in the richest nation in the history of the world, 800 people die every day from poverty and low-wealth.
We are planning to unite and mobilize Washington, DC across all 8 wards, along with counties across Maryland and Virginia, for a massive turnout of poor and low-wage people, clergy and their congregations, and partners and advocates and their organizations. On June 29th at 10am we will not let the last image be of extremists attacking democracy, but instead be a massive moral movement demonstrating the need for a resurrection and not an insurrection in this country. John, I am counting on you! Join me for this important mobilization meeting on May 14th at 6pm!
Forward together!
Yours in the great spirit of peace, love, and justice,
Bishop William J. Barber, II
