Ecosystem Coordination Board to co-host the Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network local forum

The Puget Sound Partnership Ecosystem Coordination Board will meet online and at the Dungeness River Nature Center in Sequim on Thursday, May. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We’ll be providing an all-virtual livestream of this meeting, through TVW.

Meeting highlights include:


* A forum with the Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network Local Integrating Organization (LIO). The Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network LIO will host a local forum to share their unique perspectives and experiences about the following topics: Building a climate resilient peninsula through local conservation; and highlighting rural communities and the challenges and importance of collaboration. Forum participants include Heidi Eisenhour, co-chair at the Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network, Steve Tharinger, co-chair at the Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network, Kara Cardinal, network coordinator at the Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network, Russell Hepfer, vice-chairman of the Lower Elwha S'Klallam Tribe, and Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network members Karen Affeld, Tom Sanford, Erik Kingfisher, Rebecca Benjamin, and Cathy Lear. 
  
* A presentation and discussion about the 2024 Washington State legislative session. Partnership staff will provide a recap of the 2024 Washington State legislative session, as well as share plans and seek input on 2025 legislative ideas. Ecosystem Coordination Board members will have the opportunity to ask questions and share information. Presentation by Don Gourlie, legislative policy director at the Puget Sound Partnership.  


* A presentation and discussion about Elwha and Dungeness River restoration projects. Ecosystem Coordination Board members will learn about restoration projects within Elwha and Dungeness River and receive a tour of the restoration site. Presentation by Russell Hepfer, vice-chairman of the Lower Elwha S'Klallam Tribe, and Robert Knapp, environmental planning program manager at Jamestown Natural Resources.


* A presentation and discussion about the Salmon Recovery Plan Addendum. The Salmon Recovery Plan Addendum will guide the Puget Sound regional salmon recovery organization's salmon recovery actions over the next ten years. Ecosystem Coordination Board members will learn about the Salmon Recovery Plan Addendum and discuss their role in supporting specific actions. Presentation by Melissa Speeg, salmon recovery manager at the Puget Sound Partnership, and Ashley Bagley, salmon policy advisor at the Puget Sound Partnership.
