Hi John,
Despite your calls and emails and a powerful rally, last week the Kansas Legislature overturned Governor Kelly’s vetos of intrusive, extreme abortion restrictions. We’re deeply disappointed politicians in Topeka ignored thousands of Kansans’ voices to pursue the agenda of anti-abortion interest groups. It’s inexcusable.
For more on the bills going into law (unless they’re stopped in court), check out this Kansas City Star opinion piece by Dr. Ashley E. Bloom.
Because the legislature may return to the Statehouse for a special session on taxes, there’s a chance they might also try to overturn the Governor’s expected veto of House Bill 2653, which gives fetuses legal rights through child support law. We’ll keep you updated on action opportunities going forward.
In the meantime, be certain you’re registered to vote and following Trust Women, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, the ACLU of Kansas, and URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity for their updates and action alerts.
Thank you for standing up for freedom,
