Hello friend,

Did you hear the news? Our campaigning made a real impact at the local and mayoral elections last week.

Over the past few months hundreds of thousands of us have been calling for an end to the personal debt crisis that is affecting over 10 million people across the UK. And we’re starting to break through.

“I’m ready to fight harder ... for a Greater Manchester where people can live free from the fear of debt, hunger and eviction...”

These were the words spoken by newly elected Andy Burnham, in his acceptance speech ([link removed]) for winning his third term as Mayor of Greater Manchester. He said how powerfully he was affected by hearing people speak about the impact of the debt crisis at our hustings event a week earlier in Manchester, where we had invited all mayoral candidates, (pictured below).

These hustings were led by people with personal experience of debt, as part of the People’s Manifesto on Debt. The Manifesto details three key demands on what needs to be done to tackle the UK’s household debt crisis.
* Fair debt solutions so everyone can have a fresh start.

* To be treated with dignity, and protected from exploitation and harassment by creditors, debt collectors and bailiffs.

* An end to people being pushed into debt just to pay for the food, energy and housing they need.

With a general election on the horizon here in the UK, friend– we have an opportunity to build on this momentum. Will you help boost these demands by signing the petition to all party leaders?
Yes, I will add my name ([link removed])

We know that when we come together, we can create real change. Your campaigning has pushed this issue up the agenda for the mayoral elections, now let’s do it for the general election.

Together we can build on this momentum and make sure whichever party is elected commits to taking action to end the household debt crisis.
Add your name now ([link removed])

We’ll be in touch soon with more ways to take action, but for now, well done!

In solidarity,

Eva, Heidi, Joe and all at Debt Justice
