This evening EMILYs List will host our annual We Are EMILY gala in Washington, D.C. It's an opportunity to celebrate our community of candidates and supporters, and we look forward to it every year.

But as I get ready for tonight's program, I find myself thinking about the night before We Are EMILY 2022, when everything changed.

That was the night of the U.S. Supreme Court leak that confirmed the Court was planning to overturn Roe v. Wade. We Are EMILY proceeded as scheduled the next day, and suffice it to say: The electricity among attendees was palpable. The standout moment of the evening came when Vice President Kamala Harris issued a powerful question from our stage that captured the rage and determination in the room. She asked, "How DARE they?"

I'm writing to you today, John, because I hope you remember how you felt when you found out Roe would be overturned. I'm forwarding you the email we sent that night; you'll find it below. I hope that memory motivates you to stay mad, stay determined, and fight BACK against the Republicans who caused this crisis and who still, two years later, are working to destroy our rights even further.

Earlier tonight, POLITICO broke the story that the Supreme Court plans to strike down Roe v. Wade. To be clear: This is a draft opinion, leaked from the Court, and is not a final ruling. As of this writing, abortion is still a federally-protected right in this country.

But this news clearly shows us where the fate of abortion rights in this country is headed.
