NHCEH Program Updates and Opportunities to Engage

Dear Friends and Partners,

Much has changed at NH Coalition to End Homelessness ([link removed]) over the past several months. Just six months into her new role as Executive Director, Jennifer Chisholm has brought new life to NHCEH’s mission through a foundation of more than two decades working in direct service to NH citizens experiencing homelessness. Her compassion is real, her knowledge invaluable and her energy matched only by her ability to inspire positive change. More recently, we have welcomed Nicole Johnson in the role of Program Coordinator. Nicole comes to us with a talent for messaging, a love for people and the stories that define them and a passion for the mission.

We stand strong, energized, and inspired to move forward and build

lasting solutions to end homelessness through

research, education and advocacy…
* NHCEH’s State of Homelessness in NH Annual Report remains a critical go-to resource for direct service providers, legislators and NH citizens. We continue to look for ways to increase the breadth of representation of our data and the ease with which this important information is presented and made available. We are working hard to provide a comprehensive look at the state of homelessness with the goal of moving toward well-informed decisions around strategies for change. You can find last year’s report here ([link removed]) .

* NHCEH’s Hope Starts Here Scholarship. We are thrilled once again to provide two $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have experienced homelessness at some point during their education, have plans to continue their education post high school and have shown academic achievement in their studies. It is a wonderful opportunity for NHCEH to honor the incredible resiliency of students who have lived experience. We are in the process of accepting applications and encourage service providers and schools to spread the word. Applications are due by May 15th and awards will be announced in the month of June. Applications can be found here ([link removed]) .

* NHCEH In the Community. Both Jennifer (pictured on left) and Nicole (pictured on right) recently had the opportunity to participate in Safe and Sound NH: Pathways to Stable Housing, an event run by Keene State sociology students studying the systemic causes of homelessness and strategies for change. It was an inspirational afternoon to be in the presence of so many leaders and providers - both seasoned and up and coming - working tirelessly to make this basic human right accessible to all NH citizens.

* NHCEH’s Granite Leaders Program. This is an exciting time of year for us as we are busy prepping for Granite Leaders; a free, five-day, leadership training program for people who have experienced homelessness. Participants learn specific advocacy skills that, when combined with their lived experience, place them among the most influential voices of those working to improve the quality of life in communities across New Hampshire. Topics include legislative process, advocacy skills, media and communications and how to be engaged on a Board or Council/Coalition. Applications are due by May17th and can be foundhere ([link removed]) .

* Proposed Legislation at the State House. NHCEH continues to monitor proposed state legislation related to funding for homeless services and bills that would impact access to housing. NHCEH presented written testimony in support of SB406, which would allocate $2.5 million to increase the reimbursement rate emergency shelters receive to help cover the cost of the continuum of services provided to those accessing their care. You can view NHCEH’s written testimony here ([link removed]) . NHCEH and community partners will continue to rally support for additional shelter system funding.

Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to engage in advocacy efforts!

We’re glad you asked!

NHCEH’s work toward lasting solutions to end homelessness is only possible through the support of our donors. You can make a donation at any time on our website here ([link removed]) . You can also join your NH neighbors in making a donation June 11th - 12th as part of NH Gives, the largest statewide fundraising initiative through the NH Center For Nonprofits (look for more NH Gives updates on social media).

Thank you for sharing our belief that having a home is a human right and supporting our work to prevent and end homelessness in NH.
