JOHN,
Happy World Red Cross Day!
The American Red Cross is near and dear to my heart. Volunteering with the Red Cross for over 37 years, serving in various local, national, and international leadership positions, has been a wonderful experience for me…a way of giving back.
The organization’s mission, and the enormous difference its members make not only in the U.S., but across the globe, captured my attention early on. I made a commitment nearly four decades ago to the Red Cross, and I’ve loved every minute I have spent helping to fulfill that mission.
And while I may not necessarily love the process of giving blood, I absolutely do love the life-saving impact made by those of us who donate blood. That’s why I have happily rolled up my sleeves 190 times, donating a pint of blood each time. It’s a small act that will make a crucial difference in another person’s life.
I have also been a member of the St. Louis-Area Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) since 2018. DAT volunteers respond rapidly to aid victims of floods, tornadoes, or fires across the region. The Red Cross provides much-needed financial assistance and resources to help rebuild lives when disaster strikes—and as we are seeing right now with so many weather-related disaster events throughout the Midwest, this kind of emergency assistance is needed now more than ever.

So on World Red Cross Day, I ask that you please consider volunteering with the Red Cross, donating blood (you are literally giving the gift of life!), or supporting everything the Red Cross does with a financial contribution. I promise that you will not regret it! Please visit www.redcross.org [[link removed]] to learn more and get involved.
Our world so desperately needs good people performing small (and big) acts of kindness. Thank you for doing what you can to help others.
Yours in Service,
Joe Pereles
