This course highlights the importance of unarmed civilian defense (UCD), presenting it not as an addition to military defense but as a replacement. Given the destructiveness of wars in Gaza, Ukraine, and elsewhere, there has never been a more important time to find new ways of dealing with conflicts without violence. While there are plenty of opportunities to learn about the study and practice of nonviolence, what sets this course apart is its focus on nonviolent alternatives to war, complemented by a deep dive into the people, study, practice, and communications involved in such efforts.
