Hi John,
Missed our recent webinar, "Say Abortion: Why Words Matter"? No worries! You can catch up on this timely conversation about the importance of using clear language when discussing abortion access. We're urging legislators, educators, and advocates to say "abortion" directly, rather than using euphemisms like "reproductive choices" or "reproductive health care." Join us in holding advocates and policymakers accountable to protect abortion providers and seekers.

Check Out What’s Going on This Month:
Abortion is Life Saving Care
On April 24, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for a case challenging a federal law that guarantees treatment for emergency medical conditions nationwide under EMTALA. Anti-abortion groups are attempting to argue that abortion is not life-saving care, which we know is not true. Abortion is essential health care and should not be restricted in its capacity to save lives.

Self-Care
Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.
Here are our self-care tips for May:
-
Somatic Movement! Described by the Somatic Movement Center as "focusing on the internal experience of the movement," this is my favorite way to work through brain fog or restlessness, and also to connect with my creativity. Set the vibe with a song, turn off your brain, and let your body move you! – Ani, Archival Research Coordinator
-
Listen to birdsongs (artificially or otherwise!) - listening to bird sounds is shown to alleviate feelings of depression and anxiety/stress. Type in "bird sounds" or "nature sounds" in the streaming service of your choice, hit "shuffle" on a playlist that you find and let the sounds of nature quiet your mind. Or, even better, go outside (if you can) or open a window and listen for the sound of birds singing! – Nataley, Executive Assistant and Senior Operations Coordinator
-
Touch grass (literally!) -- Whether that looks like going for a walk, participating in a local river clean up, or just sitting in the grass and reading a book, spending time appreciating nature can be so grounding! I've recently made a point of spending time every day under my favorite tree and have gotten so much joy seeing it grow and blossom this spring! – Kieran, Senior Strategic Research Director
See you next month!
