Dear John,
The recent surge in squatting—dishonest people taking over private real estate that doesn’t belong to them—isn’t limited to only U.S. cities like New York.
It’s a phenomenon spreading all around the globe, even reaching a crisis point in Spain with an estimated 100,000 houses currently occupied by trespassers.
One of our partners in Spain, the Fundación para el Avance de la Libertad (Fundalib) has been helping private property owners combat this epidemic.
They even released a 125-page book on the subject, the Practical Guide Against Illegal Housing Occupancy.
Fundalib is smashing the statist narrative about squatting by drawing attention to two specific issues.
First, that the pro-squatter position is built on the extremist, authoritarian idea that property rights are illegitimate.
And second, that regulation-obsessed politicians built the current system that’s encouraged squatting by violating our property rights—making housing too costly to build, or even outright illegal.
Fundalib is working to streamline housing regulations so that new homes can be built and this part of the problem can be solved.
To address the first point, Fundalib is shining light on the relationship between authoritarian ideologies and opposition to private property rights.
It turns out that these ideas aren’t too popular in Spain either. The Spanish people value property rights, and they’re increasingly pressuring their leaders to side with economic liberty.
And our local partners like Fundalib are helping them every step of the way.
Now, I know exactly what you’re thinking:
“That’s awesome, Kam! They’re doing a great job! …Can they also help us kick out squatters in the U.S.?”
Perhaps you’d like to ask them for yourself!
Fundalib’s president, Roxana Nicula, will be one of our panelists for this month’s Freedom Worldwide webinar, broadcast live from Atlas Network’s Europe Liberty Forum 2024 in Madrid, Spain.
Consider registering for a webinar that the pro-squatters really, really don’t want you to see.
Even if you can’t watch the webinar live, register today and we’ll send you the recording.
