Trump Has a Good Day in Court

CNBC: A federal judge Tuesday indefinitely postponed the criminal classified documents trial of former President Donald Trump. The trial on charges that Trump willfully retained classified national security records after leaving the White House and then hid them from federal authorities was scheduled to start May 20. But the new ruling from U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon vacates that date and sets a new slate of pretrial proceedings, the latest of which is a hearing set for July 22.The ruling casts more doubt on whether Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, will face trial on the federal criminal charges prior to the Nov. 5 election (CNBC). Meanwhile in NYC, the trial proves to be a political hit on Trump. National Review: As porn star Stormy Daniels’s testimony unfolds, what has always been obvious becomes even more explicit: The point of this trial is to bruise Donald Trump politically — to humiliate him with a tawdry sexual episode from nearly 20 years ago that is utterly unnecessary to prove the charges in the indictment (even as those charges have been distorted by Alvin Bragg, Manhattan’s elected progressive Democratic district attorney); and to brand Trump a “convicted felon” so that his Democratic opponent, President Biden, can refer to him that way in the run-up to the 2024 election (National Review).

Poll Finds Tactics Used by Pro-Hamas Protesters Not Supported By Students
Daily Wire: A new poll found that most U.S. college students do not support the tactics used in the anti-Israel protests taking place on campuses nationwide that have raised concerns about the safety of Jewish students. An overwhelming majority of the respondents — 90% — were against protesters blocking pro-Israel students from parts of campus. Another 67% did not approve of occupying buildings, and 58% rejected attempts to refuse a university’s order to disperse (Daily Wire). Majority of respondents also stated they would not be friends with people who marched for Israel (Generation Lab Poll).

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) Claims to Regret Saying Black Children Don’t Know What Computers Are
If she had an “R” next to her name, she would be lambasted as a racist. Associated Press: New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says she regrets making an offhand remark that suggested Black children in the Bronx do not know what the word “computer” means. Hochul, a Democrat, made the extemporaneous comment Monday while being interviewed at a large business conference in California to discuss expanding economic opportunities in artificial intelligence for low-income communities. The remark was not addressed during the interview and the governor went on to explain that her goal is to provide avenues for communities of color to access emerging artificial intelligence technologies as a means to address social inequality (Associated Press). End Wokeness: Governor Kathy Hochul thinks black people don’t know what a computer is (X).

TikTok Sues the United States to Overturn Ban
NBC: TikTok is suing the United States government in an effort to stop enforcement of a bill passed last month that seeks to force the app’s Chinese owner to sell the app or have it banned. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, argues that the bill, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, violates constitutional protections of free speech. The suit calls the law an “unprecedented violation” of the First Amendment. The company argues that invoking national security concerns is not a sufficient reason for restricting free speech, and that the burden is on the federal government to prove that this restriction is warranted. It has not met that burden, the lawsuit stated (NBC). Hill: The law gives ByteDance 270 days to sell TikTok to a new company that will be allowed to operate it in the U.S., or else the app will be banned from American networks and online application stores. The president can give ByteDance an additional 90 days to sell TikTok if he determines it necessary (Hill).

Chicago Teachers Union Wants to Be Rewarded for Failing Students
Fox News: The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) was slammed for its “radical” demands after it was revealed it is seeking an extra $50 billion in contract negotiations to pay for salary increases, migrant resources, fully-funded abortions and LGBTQ-related materials in the classroom. A leaked document sheds light on the eye-popping agenda, including Union President Stacy Davis Gates’ audacious call for yearly 9% wage increases for members through fiscal year 2028. The average salary of a teacher in Chicago Public Schools is $93,182. Therefore, the average teacher’s pay will increase by half to $144,620 in the 2027-2028 school year (Fox News). US News: In Chicago Public Schools, 16% of elementary students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 12% tested at or above that level for math. Also, 16% of middle school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 12% tested at or above that level for math. And 14% of high school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 14% tested at or above that level for math (US News). Guy Benson: With results that disastrous, you’d think a compassionate union whose leaders care about the ability of children to learn and thrive would simply disband and encourage a total overhaul of the system, to see if someone else can hurt these kids less. Instead, they’re demanding both zero competition and a huge raise for themselves, plus all sorts of goodies. They look at the pathetic stats they’ve “achieved” and want a big reward for themselves (Townhall).

Polling Indicates Biden’s 2020 Coalition Fading Away
Townhall: A recent analysis published by the left-leaning Brookings Institution — which highlights Pew data — demonstrates significant erosion within Joe Biden’s 2020 victory coalition, across multiple key demographics. It cites “major shifts away from Biden have occurred among Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters. Surprisingly, Trump appears to have gained more ground among college-educated Black and Hispanic voters than with less educated members of these groups.  Equally surprising: Up to now, Trump has increased his support more among women than men.”  All survey data should be considered with a large grain of salt with half a year still remaining before the election (Townhall). Brookings Poll: Also significant is the erosion of support for Biden among voters ages 30 to 49. This is the cohort most focused on family formation and most likely to become first-time homeowners, suggesting that the surging costs of child care and monthly mortgage payments may be reducing their support for the president (Brookings Poll).

California Unions Push for Statewide $20 Minimum Wage to Follow Fast Food Restaurants
National Review: Last month, California implemented an unprecedented $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers. Now, labor unions and their activist partners want to extend this wage rate across industries. Golden State lawmakers don’t need to speculate about the consequences of such a policy; a near-$20 minimum-wage experiment has already played out in their own backyard. City and state lawmakers don’t need a crystal ball to predict the outcome of a $20 minimum wage — they just need to ask their own constituents who are living through it. The only question that remains is whether California will acknowledge that its desperate search for “economic justice” has put it on the road to economic ruin (National Review). KCRA: Advocates are also pushing for the state to phase out the subminimum wage for incarcerated workers (KCRA).

Majority of Americans Want Disney to Return to Programming Without LGBTQ Indoctrination
Daily Wire: A new poll shows Americans overwhelmingly want Disney to return to family-friendly “wholesome” entertainment and stop making programming about “sexuality” and pushing its LBGTQ agenda. The result found that “71% of American Adults agreed” that Disney should return to “wholesome programming” and give the power back to parents to decide when their “children are taught about sexuality.” That number included 53% who “strongly agreed” with that statement. Twenty-two percent disagreed with this sentiment and that also included 10% who “strongly disagreed” (Daily Wire). Rasmussen: Two years ago, Karey Burke, president of Disney’s General Entertainment Content, said Disney has “many, many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories.” majority (54%) of Americans believe such programming is not appropriate for children under 12, while 33% think it is appropriate (Rasmussen).

GOP Files Censure Resolution Against Ilhan Omar (D-MN) Who Claimed Some Jewish Students are “Pro-Genocide”
Hill: Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) on Tuesday filed a resolution to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) after she suggested some Jewish students are “pro-genocide.” Bacon said he does not plan to make his resolution privileged, which means the House will not immediately vote on the measure. He said he will work with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and GOP leadership on timing. But the mere introduction of the legislation marks a sharp rebuke of Omar (Hill). Fox News: Omar has long been targeted by Republicans for her criticism of Israel. It even got her removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee last February, when the GOP won back the majority in the 2022 election (Fox News).

Boy Scouts of America Changes Name to Be More Inclusive
Washington Post: After 114 years of being known as the Boy Scouts of America, the nation’s largest scouting organization is changing its name to the more inclusive Scouting America. The major rebrand, announced Tuesday, comes after years of turmoil for the organization, as well as major changes meant to stem the tide of declining membership. The new Scouting America name is also a reflection of the organization’s biggest change: the decision five years ago to welcome girls into its ranks at all levels (Washington Post). Citizen Free Press: The Boys Scouts are changing their name to Scouting America. This is the first name change in 114 years. The organization wants to be more inclusive (X).
