As we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week, I’m reminded of the instrumental role of teachers in the lives of our youth.

I wouldn't be where I am today without the influence of so many amazing teachers and professors. They took a little girl from Selma and made her want to see the world beyond. The educators that had the greatest impact on me, though, were my mom and dad, teachers in the Selma City Schools.

This week, as we reflect on the vital role that teachers play in our lives, it is more important than ever that we show our support.
