John, I just left the House floor — where the Republican majority just voted to pass an unserious bill about freedom for kitchen appliances.
In reality, this bill is a dead giveaway to utility providers, which would rake in an additional $500 a year from every American due to the raised energy bills and repealed Department of Energy efficiency standards that this bill represents.
It would even prevent states like Connecticut from issuing our own efficiency standards if the federal government, under a future Republican administration, rolled the federal standards back. So much for the “states’ rights” argument that the GOP has used to hide behind their disastrous Trump-enabled agenda.
The vote today to pass another unserious MAGA Republican messaging bill would hurt workers, risk 2.25 million energy efficiency jobs — more than all fossil fuel jobs combined — and increase utility bills for everyday Americans. That is why I voted no.
Republicans will tell you this is a ban — yet another one of their alternative facts. DOE energy standards will save Americans nearly $1 trillion over the next 30 years, keep 2.5 billion tons of carbon emissions out of our atmosphere, and add 550,000 jobs to the economy by the end of the decade and not affect any existing appliances. Your gas stoves are safe!
My opponent George Logan would be another rubber stamp for MAGA Republicans and their unserious agenda with environmentally destructive votes like the one they just took today. Will you rush a $3 contribution to our campaign to help me share the work we are doing for CT-05 and keep this seat blue?
