Later this week, many of us will celebrate Mother’s Day with mothers, grandmothers, and other maternal figures in our lives. But before we get there, we are telling the stories from the most dangerous places to be a mother in the world — like in Sudan.

Yasmine was five months pregnant when war erupted in Sudan last year.

“I woke up to sounds of very heavy artillery at about 5 or 6am, and it lasted until 7 or 8am,” she told Al Jazeera. “I was trying to comfort my sister because we were hearing bombing in our neighborhood… We realized that this [war] isn’t going to end soon. I knew this war was going to end the lives of so many people I know. ”

The conflict in Sudan has created the world’s largest refugee crisis. 6.6 million people have been displaced.

The health care system has been brought to its knees with staff displaced and a shortage of critical supplies.

Motherhood doesn’t stop during wartime , though, which means 150,000 women are displaced and pregnant.

UNFPA has already reached 100,000 displaced people with reproductive health and medical services. So today, as you’re preparing for Mother’s Day, we’re asking you to support this work by making a gift that will deliver even more lifesaving care to women and girls.

Will you make a gift to deliver lifesaving care to pregnant women, mothers, and newborns in Sudan and wherever your help is needed most? [[link removed]]

Thank you for not looking away from this crisis.
