It's filing week for candidates up and down the Washington state ballot.
I'm honored to have the opportunity to run for Commissioner of Public Lands, one of Washington's most important statewide offices.
The Commissioner of Public Lands protects everything great about our state, its lands, and the people they sustain. It's an important role, and I'm asking for your support. Are you with me?
Here's
why I'm running — and why I'm the most qualified candidate in this crucial contest. I have a clear vision for the role of Commissioner of Public Lands.
I've seen firsthand how public policy impacts our environment and livelihoods. As our state moves towards a better future, we must bring new energy and creativity into using—and sustaining—what nature provides us. We are in this together.
✅ For 20 years, I have been a steward of our lands as a first responder. I've seen the impact of climate change, wildfires, and natural crises on our environment up close. I have hands-on experience.
✅ My experience includes serving in executive leadership at the WA Department of Natural Resources. I am actively engaged in proposing legislation, advocating for environmental justice, and managing uplands and shorelines.
✅ As a proud member of the Makah Tribal community, I was honored to serve for six years on its Council. During this time, I led the Tribal coordination with state and federal agencies on climate resilience and habitat restoration, which directly relates to the responsibilities of the Commissioner of Public Lands.
✅ Additionally, as part of my role on the Makah Tribal Council, I co-chaired the National Resources Subcommittee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs Tribal-Interior Budget Council and represented the Makah Tribe on the Pacific Fishery Management Council.
I could go on, but I know you will get this snapshot of my experience.
I offer more hands-on, direct experience than any other candidate in the race for Commissioner of Public Lands.
I'm running because I believe in building a sustainable future for the land we love. I'd be honored to have your support.
Thank you,
Patrick DePoe
