Only 5.4% of voting members in Congress are Black women.
Hi friend, this is Yvette.
The 2024 election is underway, and I’m redoubling my effort to support Black women running across the country. As the ONLY Black woman to represent the state of New York in Congress – despite the diversity of our state – I know more than anyone the importance of electing strong, progressive Black women running across the country.
This effort is critical as I work to help Hakeem Jeffries flip key districts, take back the majority in the House, and bring order back to the People’s House!
Not only that, but we know that representation matters so much to addressing the needs of our communities. Only 5.4% of voting members of our current Congress identify as Black women. Our government should be representative of the communities we serve, and countless communities across America don’t have the voice they deserve in Washington.
Women of color, and Black women in particular, face unique challenges when running for office, and as the First Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, I take special interest in supporting races across the country with the extra resources they need to win.
In key swing districts, Donald Trump and the MAGA crowd have already committed to investing millions to elect far-right ideologues who won’t put the needs of the people first – many of whom can’t even admit that Joe Biden won in 2020!
Yvette Clarke is the ONLY Black woman representing New York in Washington. She has a known track record of bringing together moderates and progressives to pass progressive legislation to help communities of color, low-income families, immigrants, and more.
