Daily Docket — Tuesday, May 7

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) passes multiple voter suppression laws.
* Kemp signed ([link removed]) three new voter suppression bills into law today, including one piece of legislation that makes it even easier to challenge another person's voter eligibility.
+ Voting rights groups have already said they will challenge the laws.

The Democratic and Republican National Committees are weighing in on numerous voting rights cases.
* Democrats slammed ([link removed]) the Republican National Committee in court for what they describe as a concerted Republican campaign to impede the 2024 election process by filing lawsuits filled with spurious claims.
* The Republican National Committee and Pennsylvania Republican Party are defending ([link removed]) a Pittsburgh-area county's decision to not allow voters to fix mail-in ballots submitted without an inner secrecy envelope and are thus not counted.

The saga over Louisiana's maps continues.
* Congressional map: Louisianans may finally get new legislative and congressional maps this summer under two court orders that lay out ([link removed]) a timeline for when compliant maps must be in place.
* State House and Senate maps: A federal court is giving ([link removed]) Louisiana until June 3 to enact new state House and Senate districts or the court will take over the map-drawing process. The maps were struck down in February for violating the Voting Rights Act by diluting Black voting power.

Here are some other updates.
* An Arizona court set ([link removed]) arraignments for 17 people charged with felonies for their involvement in a fake elector scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
The list of indicted includes GOP lawyers John Eastman, Jenna Ellis and Christina Bobb.
* When the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a 1864 abortion ban, Kari Lake said ([link removed]) that local sheriffs should enforce the law if the state wouldn't.
+ Even though Arizona Democrats — and two Republican legislators — succeeded in overturning the 1864 law, involvement of local law enforcement in abortion care is still a major cause for concern, from contributor Jessica Pishko ([link removed]) .
* A right-wing legal group filed ([link removed]) a lawsuit to force California to purge voters from its rolls and produce records relating to voter list maintenance. This case is the ninth conservative lawsuit filed in 2024 challenging voter rolls.
* The ACLU of Nevada filed ([link removed]) a lawsuit alleging that the Elko County Jail is missing key processes to allow eligible incarcerated people to vote in violation of state law and the Nevada Constitution.
