John, it's Andy, the Executive Director of the Kansas Dems.
It's finally May, and the regularly-scheduled legislative session is over. Now we're fully focused on Election Day, and it's coming fast β [[link removed]] click here to chip in and support our work >> [[link removed]] [[link removed]]
But before we move on completely, we have to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all. β¬οΈ
THE GOOD: The veto on a gender-affirming care ban was sustained β meaning that trans youth in Kansas can get the care they deserve! Democrats in the legislature were also able to fend off restrictive clauses in education funding bills, securing a funding plan for the next three years and a $75 million special education increase.
THE BAD: Right-wing legislators put up bill after bill infringing on voting rights and access, including an attempt to keep certain candidates off the ballot, curbing the number of acceptable mail-in ballots, and criminalizing delivering more than 10 advance ballots on behalf of others.
And here's where things get really ugly, John:
The extreme right-wing supermajorities used their power to overturn Governor Kelly's veto on MULTIPLE anti-abortion bills β ultimately decreasing abortion access in Kansas.
John, the stakes this year are high β EVERY state legislator is up for election in the fall. That's why we're calling on the people with the most power for help β our grassroots supporters.
Far-right extremists in Kansas are not going to go down without a fight, John β and it will end up hurting regular Kansas like you and me the most. The only way we can continue to have progressive victories in Kansas is by supporting Democrats up and down the ballot. Can you pitch in today to help us stay on track? [[link removed]]
