It's Official -- Meet Our First Candidate!
Anna Thomas (PA House 137)

We are thrilled to announce our first candidate of 2024: Anna Thomas, the challenger in Pennsylvania State House District 137! Democrats hold a narrow one-seat majority in the House, and this seat is absolutely critical to protecting that thin majority.

MEET ANNA THOMAS

Anna Thomas narrowly lost her race for the PA House of Representatives District 137 in 2022 by just 700 votes. Anna has continued to advocate for her community since then, and with our support she will prevail over a 14-year incumbent. If Anna is able to flip this district, it will allow Democrats to grow their majority that was achieved in 2022 and has been sustained since then.

PENNSYLVANIA IS IMPORTANT!

Democrats flipped the Pennsylvania House in 2022 by 63 votes in one district! After special elections due to vacancies, Democrats will need to protect a one-seat majority. We must elect Anna in this crucial district to defend democracy and protect abortion in this important battleground state.

WHAT CAN YOU  DO RIGHT NOW?

  1. Invest in Anna by participating in our fundraising blitz starting May 13! Your donation will help Anna hire top talent and build a winning campaign. GOP candidates are often funded by just a few big donors, so let’s show her some grassroots love!
  2. Sign up for a phonebank! We're making calls in Anna's district every Wed at 6:30 pm, and hope you will join us!
  3. Get others involved! Invite your friends to phonebank and postcard with us, and share the donation link. Follow our candidates on social media. Find everything you need to spread the word on our candidate pages.

We’re so excited to support such a great candidate with you this year – stay tuned to our emails and newsletters for upcoming events and opportunities!

Mission Accomplished --
We Conquered the Bridge!

Thanks to everyone who joined us, The Woman's National Democratic Club (WNDC) and Diversity Matters in crossing the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge on April 14 as part of our State Bridges program.  We raised over $1000 each for our Pennsylvania partner organizations,  Pennsylvania Stands Up and Pennsylvania United!

We enjoyed fantastic weather for bridge walk, and celebrated afterward with our Spring volunteer kick-off party at All Purpose Pizza.

Congratulations to all!

The Blitz is Coming! The Blitz is Coming!

IT'S BLITZ TIME AGAIN! 🎉

Our fundraising blitz for Anna Thomas starts Monday, May 13 at 12:01 AM!

We are thrilled to be supporting Anna Thomas (PA 137) as she campaigns to join the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

We need her voice in the House, and we will be running a fundraising blitz to give Anna the funds she needs to hire staff, promote her message, and connect with voters.

Can't wait until May 13?  You can donate RIGHT NOW!

Phonebanking Starts on May 15
Join Now!

Sign up now to phonebank for Anna Thomas on May 15, 6:30-8 pm ET.

Why phonebank? The data proves it: phonebanking is THE BEST volunteering option for remote voter contact. We identify supporters and let them know why their vote matters, speak with undecided voters, and recruit local volunteers.

Do you have Fear of Phonebanking (FOPB)?  Don't worry! No experience is necessary. Each Zoom phonebank includes training and check-ins for first-timers (experienced callers can jump right in). We'll share successes and address questions throughout the session, all while contacting voters in crucial state legislative races. Our veteran phonebank leaders will help you get comfortable, increase your effectiveness, and make sure you have a great experience.

Can't make May 15?  There are plenty of other options to participate!  Sign up for one or more phonebanks below!

Postcarding Begins in June!

We hope you will join us in writing postcards to Pennsylvania voters in June!

Who is Sister District DC Metro Area?

Sheri is one of our newest steering committee members and is active on our fundraising committee.  She lives in Alexandria, Virginia, and recently retired from the corporate world, giving her more time to focus on issues that matter to her and things that she enjoys.

Sheri started volunteering through phonebanking leading up to the 2020 election as an outlet for her anxiety around the presidential race.  In 2023, she joined Sister District because of its focus on elections in her home state of Virginia and the pressing issues for Virginia constituents.  In particular, Sheri was concerned with the possible impact of the Virginia elections on women's access to healthcare given the recent Dobbs decision and many states’ restrictions on access.

Sheri continues to volunteer with Sister District because of her fellow members' shared values and the significant impact the organization has on state races that affect everyday lives.  She also appreciates the opportunity Sister District has provided to meet others who are as passionate as she is about what’s happening in this country.

In her spare time, Sheri enjoys walking her dog, Lily, working out, reading and spending time with her husband and Lily in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
